Busy, busy busy…
‘Are you the artist who does the drawings?’
I get asked that one every time I go to a show. In fact I get asked that question about a dozen times. I’m always polite. To the point but polite. ‘No!’ is the answer.
But from now on I will have to spend a little more time answering the same question, as the answer has now changed…slightly.
Over the past few years, I’ve been working on ways to create images that would be a welcome extension to the sculptures you all know and love as Speed Freaks. Now we are pleased to announce a new range of products which are centred around these new images. Posters, yes posters. Mugs…and wait for it…T-shirts! Hopefully as the next few months go by, a number of your favourite larger Speed Freaks retailers will be stocking this new section to the Speed Freaks range, so you can go check them all out. The images you’ll find on the new products are not drawings, but photographs of the Speed Freaks cars superimposed onto real life backgrounds. I hope you enjoy them!
But wait…there’s more!
If the above news wasn’t enough, you’ll be pleased to know I’ve spent a solid six months sculpting and painting new cars to add to the Speed Freaks range as well!
The hot-rodders among you will be pleased by two of the new subjects. First, I’ve revisited the old F-100 pick-up. This has now been turned into a really nice retro breakdown truck, complete with dirt and all the ageing you’d expect on a truck that’s been working for a living for the best part of fifty years! Ray’s Rapid Recovery is the new truck to watch out for.

Rat Rodders will also be happy campers as well. Whiplash is the car for you. It’s an un-chopped ‘T’ slammed onto the floor, complete with a wild six pack sitting on top of the expected huge Hemi, satin black paint, pin-striping and the obligatory aged Maltese cross on the doors! Another old favourite given some more TLC is the old ‘65 Galaxie. Collectors of Speed Freaks will remember this as a sixties race car. This new street version Two-Ton Missile sees subtle two-tone lemon paint and a smoother all-round style.

Bench Marque is the first of a new range of very subtle black and white subjects. I put a mono painted Mustang on display at a show last year and everyone wanted to buy it! So along with the newly named ‘Bullitt-Proof’ Charger which has also been given the same new mono treatment, you’ll now have two more American Classics to add to the collection — albeit two very subtle, very different, very classy additions. Name the Car Competition
I'll finish with the announcement of the winner of our recent ‘name the car’ competition. First things first, thanks for all the entries, It seems all the Charger fans out there gave their brains a good work out! Steve Arme should be a happy chap, as his suggestion, ‘Bullit-Proof’ made its way to the top of the pile. Congratulations and a very special signed ‘Bullit-Proof’ Charger will be with him real soon.
